Baby Shower Gifts

When I was pregnant with my first child, Liam, it was a very exciting time when it came to planning the baby shower. Going to a store and walking around with a price scanner and picking one of these and one of those was so much fun. However, when it came down to opening gifts at the shower the best gifts I received were not gift that were listed on my registry. Unique or homemade gifts are always the best to receive.

Kid Birthday Cake Ideas! - Continued

As promised here is my latest cake invention. My son and nephew (joint B-day party, always nice to share expenses!) love Lego's and wanted a cake to look like a Lego tower.
I am not super happy with the outcome, although I am hard on myself. I really wanted it to be a lot cleaner, but no one in my family likes fondant icing, so I used good old butter cream. Around the bottom of the cakes I put Lego candies, I found at a  not-so-local candy store. It was worth the drive, the kids loved them. The boys were very happy with their cakes. They were even happier decorating the cake, I let them put the Lego guys on!

Kid Birthday Cake Ideas!

I love to cook and bake. I wanted to share some kid birthday cake ideas with you.

I ask my children, and nieces and nephews, what they want for their cake and go from there. Over the last couple of years I have made some crazy cakes, and with them made myself a little crazy in the process. I tend to be a perfectionist. This is not a good quality to have when you are not a trained baker trying to make a stand out birthday cake! Here are some pics of my creations.

Candy Land Cake
I made this cake for Liam's 4th birthday. I used the Candy Land game board as a guide.

Lego Pirate Ship Cake!
This is by far my favorite cake I have ever made. It was for Liam's 5th birthday and my nephew, Reid, 7th birthday. The pirate Lego pieces are actually my husband's. He kept a lot of his childhood toys.
To be honest, I can not take full credit for this cake. I baked, molded and frosted the cakes, but Spencer, my husband, did most of the decorating. I must say he did an awesome job.

Castle Cake

This cake was for Shelby's 4th birthday and Ian's 1st birthday. We do a lot of joint parties! Shelby wanted a castle, so I decorated half for a girl and the other half for a boy. Not my best creation. I was running out of time, so I really rushed this one. If you can see in the background, there are pots full of flower candies that I made as favors for this party.

These pictures were taken at about 2 am. Clean-up had not taken place yet!!

Double Rainbow

This cake was for my nieces 8th grade graduation. When I asked her what she wanted, she said a double rainbow. There is this song and video on YouTube about a double rainbow. I guess it is really popular with the young folk. The rainbows are Skittles I attached with royal icing. It was a big hit.

I have another cake I will be posting soon. The party is in two days and I haven't started anything yet! Yikes I better get going!

Summer Fun

Summer is officially in full swing. The kids are getting antsy and I am counting down the days until school starts.

All joking aside, summer is a special time of the year when you can really spend some quality time with your children. One of our favorite things to do as a family is to go on a picnic. You don’t have to go far. Liam and Shelby had a picnic lunch in our backyard yesterday, and they thought it was the coolest thing.

I helped pack their lunch, in a picnic basket of course. They had everything they needed; good food, a blanket, a basket and an adventure in their mind.

My Little Entrepreneurs

I guess running your own business runs in my family’s blood. The other night my eldest son, Liam 5 and my daughter, Shelby 4 where playing quietly together in the basement. I usually worry when they are playing quietly, but I could hear them talking. They weren’t fighting so I let them be. About an hour later I was greeted by a very enthusiastic “Mom you have to come see what we did!” As I headed downstairs I was a little worried as to what I was going to find. What I did find I never expected.
My children made a store; well actually it was more like restaurant.  They had a store front, sitting area and a TV lounge. They moved almost every item we have in our basement to create this space, which took up the majority of the basement. I couldn’t believe it. Liam told me, “this is where you give me your money and I will give you your food.”
I couldn’t help but giggle to myself. They worked so hard on this.  I love their enthusiasm and entrepreneur spirits.

Shopping Cart

It was brought to my attention there is some confusion with the shopping cart or checkout. Here at My Mommys Shop we use PayPal as our secure checkout provider. PayPal allows you, the customer, to use any credit card or debit card to make a purchase. You do not need a PayPal account to make a purchase from My Mommys Shop.

Once you have added the items you wish to purchase to the cart, then click checkout at the top right corner of the page.
There are five steps to our checkout page.
Step one allows you to sign-in, if you are a customer or checkout as a guest.
Here you will enter in your name, billing address, email etc

This is also where you would enter a promotional code for a discount.

Step two, is where you enter in your shipping address.

Step three, is where you can pick a shipping method. Most items have only one shipping option to insure the most cost effective method.

Step four is where the confusion came in.
Step four is called payment method. This is not where you enter in your credit card information. This step is only to let the customer know PayPal is the payment method  My Mommys Shop accepts.

Step five is where you review and confirm your order. Make sure your address is correct and the item you selected is the item in your cart. At this point you can cancel your order and go back to shopping. If all the information is correct and you want to continue on with your purchase, then click confirm. At this point you are now transferred over to the secure PayPal site where you enter in your credit card information.

I apologize for any confusion the checkout might have caused. Please email me if you have any other questions or concerns.

What a Mom can do!

It amazing me what a Mom can actually do, even when she thinks she can't.

Over the weekend half of my family was hit by the stomach flu. What makes it worse is not only did I have it myself, but so did my husband. So, there was no help in sight. The day seemed to last forever.

Thinking about it after, it just amazes me what a parent can do. I really felt like I was dying, but I was still able to change diapers, make food for my other not-sick children, and still hold back the hair of my very sick three year old daughter, oh ya and help my husband. To be honest he did get it worse then all of us :(

When you become a parent something sub-conscience happens to you; your kids come first. I never had the thought in my head after having my first, I will help my kids puke before myself. No it just happens that way. There is no preparing and no understanding unless you are a parent yourself.

Take a second today and thank your parents for all they did for you. It doesn't matter how old you are now, I know they will appreciate a well yearned thanks.

Memorial Day Celebration

When I think of Memorial Day it takes me back to being a kid; going to the local town parade, BBQ at my grandparents and family fun time. But my first thought when I think about Memorial Day is my grandfather. His birthday is May 30th. He is now gone and I miss him so. I only have great memories of him. He was the nicest man you could ever meet. Everyone loved him. This time of year gives me a sense of sadness, missing him, and a sense of joy, all the great memories I have.

To help celebrate this great holiday, My Mommys Shop is holding a 10% off store wide sale. Just enter the code MDC2011 when you check out.

Have a happy and safe Memorial Day Weekend!

Best Compliment Ever!

Kids do say the darnedest things!!
I couple of weeks ago my son, age 5, gave me the best compliment ever. We were sitting down to dinner and with the most sincere voice he said to me, "Mom your the best cooker ever. You are just like the on the network." I smiled ear to ear. The network he was referring to is The Food Network. I really don't think I can compare to Rachel Ray and Bobby Flay, but it made my heart melt.
I love to cook and The Food Network is really the only TV I watch. I watch it like it is culinary school.
The funniest part is what I made for dinner: chicken nuggets, french fries and broccoli. Funny he never seems to like what I make when it takes me hours of preparing. Oh well, I will take the compliment and keep cooking!

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my blog.
I am a stay-at-home mother of three beautiful children. They keep me laughing, crying, loved, busy, crazy, drained and completely happy. My children are my inspiration for almost all I do. I was a working mom who wanted to stay home with my children, so I took a huge leap of faith and left my job. Not having a consistent paycheck is hard to get used to, but we managed for a while. Now, as I am sure you know, having kids is expensive. It was time for me to take another huge leap of faith and I opened up my own estore. I had been selling on EBay for years and now the time has come to go full throttle.

I thought deciding what to sell was going to be the easy part of starting a business. Think again. I would come up with an idea and then it would change in five minutes. First, I was going to open a store just with baby supplies, then that turned into cooking store, then that turned into camping store, which turned into travel items…

I finally decided I am interested in more then one thing, and I bet many women feel the same. I am not just one type of mom; I love to cook, bake, play outside, read, travel, decorate, sew and the list goes on and on. That is how My Mommys Shop got started.

I welcome you to visit my store http://www.mymommysshop.com (link also at the bottom of the page).
